Welcome offer value tracker: our methodology

How we score a welcome offer: spin value, wagering multiple, conversion cap and expiry window, weighted so that a small wager-free offer can beat a large one with strings attached.

Ranking welcome offers by their headline figure alone rewards operators for choosing the largest number rather than the fairest structure, which is why we score offers using a weighted methodology that accounts for the terms that actually determine what a player can realistically withdraw. The components we weigh are the per-spin or bonus cash value, the wagering multiple applied and what it is applied to, the maximum conversion cap on winnings, and the expiry window within which wagering or conversion must be completed.

Each component pulls in a different direction. A large headline value with a high wagering multiple can be worth less in practice than a modest wager-free offer, because the wagering multiple determines how much total staking is required before winnings are accessible at all, and a high multiple can make that impractical for anyone not planning to play a large volume of games regardless of outcome. Similarly, a generous spin count with a low maximum conversion cap limits the realistic best case regardless of how the spins land, and a short expiry window can make an otherwise fair offer impossible to complete for a player who does not play daily.

We apply these weights so that a smaller wager-free offer can score above a larger wagered one, which reflects genuine expected value rather than headline size. This is deliberately different from ranking by bonus amount, and it is why our top-ranked welcome offers are not always the largest figures advertised in the market.

This approach is consistent with the Gambling Commission's requirement that promotional terms be fair and not misleading, since it treats the full terms as the object of comparison rather than the marketing headline. It does not replace reading an operator's own terms page, since our scoring is a comparison tool and the operator's terms remain the binding document for any specific offer, including on expiry dates and eligibility restrictions we cannot always capture in a simplified score.

What we watch for is whether operators shift the balance of these four components over time, for example compressing conversion caps while removing wagering, since our methodology is built to catch a value reduction that a headline change would otherwise mask. We revisit and reweight our methodology periodically as the shape of typical offers in the market evolves, and any change to the weighting itself is noted on this page.
