Responsible gambling

Every operator on this site must offer deposit limits, loss limits, reality checks, time-outs and self-exclusion. Use them before you need them.

Gambling should be entertainment, not income

If you are gambling to make money, to recover losses, or because stopping feels difficult, the activity has changed shape. This page covers the tools available to you, how they work, and where to get help that is free, confidential and independent of any operator.

Everything described here is available at every casino listed on this site, because UK Gambling Commission licensees are required to provide it.

The warning signs worth taking seriously

Harm rarely announces itself. The common early indicators are:

  • Gambling for longer than intended, repeatedly
  • Chasing losses — increasing stakes to recover money already lost
  • Borrowing money, or gambling money set aside for something else
  • Hiding the extent of gambling from people close to you
  • Feeling restless or irritable when trying to cut down
  • Gambling to escape stress, low mood or boredom rather than for entertainment

If more than one of those is familiar, the tools below are worth using now rather than later. They are easier to set up while you still want to.

Deposit limits

The most effective single tool, because it acts before money reaches the account rather than after.

Every UK-licensed casino must let you set a daily, weekly or monthly deposit limit. Two things matter about how these work:

Reductions take effect immediately. If you lower a limit, it applies straight away.

Increases do not. An operator must impose a cooling-off period before a higher limit takes effect, and must ask you to confirm it after that period has passed. You cannot raise a limit in the middle of a session to keep going. That delay is the point of the tool.

Set the limit at an amount you would be comfortable losing entirely, because that is the outcome you are agreeing to.

Loss limits and time-outs

Loss limits cap net losses over a period rather than deposits, which some people find a more honest measure.

Time-outs lock the account for a fixed period — commonly 24 hours, a week, a month, or up to six weeks. During a time-out you cannot deposit or play. Accounts reopen automatically at the end, so a time-out is a pause rather than a decision.

Reality checks interrupt play at an interval you choose to show how long you have been in a session and what you are up or down. Sessions distort time badly; the reminder is more useful than it sounds.

Self-exclusion and GAMSTOP

Self-exclusion is more serious than a time-out and cannot be reversed early.

Excluding with a single operator blocks that operator for a minimum of six months.

GAMSTOP blocks every gambling business licensed in Great Britain at once — which is every casino on this site, and every casino you can legally use from Britain. You register once, for six months, one year or five years, and it applies across all of them. Licensees are required by their licence conditions to be connected to it.

Two things to understand about GAMSTOP:

It cannot be undone during the period you chose. That is what makes it work.

It does not block sites operating outside Great Britain, because the Commission has no authority over them. Sites that advertise themselves as being "not on GAMSTOP" are, by definition, not licensed here — which means no Commission oversight of their terms, no required dispute resolution, and no protection if they decline to pay. We do not list them, and if you have self-excluded, they are the specific risk that self-exclusion exists to protect you from.

Blocking software and bank blocks

Two additional layers that work independently of any operator:

Bank gambling blocks. Most UK banks now offer a switch in their app that declines gambling transactions. Many apply a delay of 24 to 48 hours before the block can be lifted.

Blocking software such as Gamban or BetBlocker restricts access to gambling sites and apps across your devices. BetBlocker is free.

Used alongside GAMSTOP, these close the gaps that a single tool leaves open.

Where to get help

All of these are free, confidential, and independent of any gambling operator.

National Gambling Helpline — 0808 8020 133. Open 24 hours a day, every day. Run by GamCare. Live chat is available at gamcare.org.uk.

GamCare — treatment, structured support programmes and a moderated forum.

Gordon Moody — residential and intensive treatment for severe gambling harm.

Gamblers Anonymous — peer support groups meeting across the UK.

GambleAwarebegambleaware.org — information, a self-assessment tool, and referral into the National Gambling Support Network.

Citizens Advice and StepChange — free debt advice, if gambling has caused financial difficulty. Debt advice is worth taking early rather than late.

If someone else's gambling is affecting you

Support is available for family members and friends, not only for the person gambling. GamCare runs a dedicated service for affected others, and the National Gambling Helpline takes calls from people worried about someone else. You do not need the person gambling to agree to anything before you seek advice.

Our position

We list only operators licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. That is not a marketing position — it is because licensed operators are required to offer the tools on this page, must be connected to GAMSTOP, and must name an independent dispute-resolution body you can escalate to.

We do not list operators outside that framework at any traffic volume, and we do not publish content aimed at circumventing self-exclusion.

18+ only. Gambling can be addictive. Please play responsibly.
